Top seed Andy Murray came through a difficult round of 16 match against qualifier Tim Smyczek at the Farmers Classic late Thursday. The Scot battled through in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.

World No. 4 Andy Murray is through to the Los Angeles quarterfinal following his three-set win over qualifier Tim Smyczek Thursday night. The 23-year-old Scot struggled during the match, but held on to secure the victory in one hour and 55 minutes. After relinquishing a 1-0, service-break lead in the decider, Murray earned two additional breaks before closing the contest. The top seed completed the night with 79% of his first-service points won and seven of 18 break chances converted.
Murray is scheduled to face Alejandro Falla in the quarterfinal. Falla rallied to upset fifth seed Ernests Gulbis in the round of 16, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(8)
(4) Feliciano Lopez def. Dudi Sela 7-6(2), 6-4
Fourth seed Feliciano Lopez booked a quarterfinal berth after taking out round of 16 opponent Dudia Sela early Thursday. The Spaniard struck a dozen aces and held 11 of 11 service games to seal the straight-set win in one hour and 38 minutes. The World No. 27, through to his fourth ATP World Tour quarter of the year, extended his 2010 season record to 21-15.
Lopez will take on James Blake for a place in the semifinal. The American veteran upended Benjamin Becker in the second round, 7-5, 7-6(5).
