Youzhny joins Gasquet in Gstaad quarterfinals Mikhail Youzhny takes out wild card Alexander Sadecky in straight sets on Thursday in Gstaad. Youzhny is through to the quarterfinals along with Richard Gasquet, who advanced on Wednesday.

No. 1 seed Mikhail Youzhny booked a spot in the Allianz Gstaad Open Suisse quarterfinals on Thursday, dismissing Alexander Sadecky 7-5, 6-4. Youzhny needed one hour and 23 minutes to fend off a game challenge from the Swiss wild card and set up a meeting with either Yuri Schukin or Frederico Gil.

Sadecky went toe-to-toe with his heavily-favored opponent throughout most of the proceedings, but the big points proved to be the difference. The world No. 437 gave away a late break in the first set and he saved only one of four break points. Sadecky managed to break Youzhny once in the second, but the 14th-ranked Russian pocketed two of his own.

Youzhny recorded seven aces but also double-faulted five times as he joined Richard Gasquet in the last eight. Gasquet advanced on Thursday with a 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-0 victory over Daniel Brands.

The 47th-ranked Frenchman dropped the first set in a tight tiebreaker, but it was all over for Brands after that. Gasquet lost only four points in four service games before adding a second break at 5-3 to finish off the set in style. Gstaad's No. 7 seed did not drop a single game in the third, and he lost a miniscule two points in three return games.

Gasquet fired nine aces and double-faulted twice. Brands, ranked No. 76 in the world following a fourth-round showing at Wimbledon, struck seven aces but donated a whopping eight double-faults.
