  • Paradorn to say his goodbye to ATP in Bangkok

Paradorn to say his goodbye to ATP in Bangkok Paradorn Srichaphan will say his farewells to tennis at the home Thailand Open in September after last playing on singles on the ATP more than three years ago.

The Bangkok event will mark the end of the road for the wildly popular 31-year-old, who helped bring tennis to life for a decade in the Land of Smiles.

A wrist injury finally forced the Asian ace off the tour in March, 2007. In the meantime, his interest drifted elsewhere.

The Thai idol married a former Miss Universe, invested in an Italian restaurant, acted in an action film and promoted other products at home. In addition, he also kept his hand in the sport with some coaching, with a dream of one day leading the Thai Davis Cup team.

But it was the dangerous sport of motorcycle racing which finally captured his fancy, with the tennis-ex suffering his share on injuries during falls form two wheels.

"I've loved motorcycle racing since I was young, I don't aim to be a race champion, finishing in the top three will do. But I do want to manage a race team one day."

The daredevil has hurt arms and legs in race falls but will be fit for his farewell appearance at the Impact arena, where he sold out the house a year ago with a losing appearance in doubles at the home event.
