Andy Murray makes no apologies after sacking his two coaches, saying the decision was tough but fair as he keeps an eye on the future of his game.
The No. 4 said that splitting from Miles MacLagan and dispensing with the services of clay-court adviser Alex Corretja of Spain was tough - but necessary for the sake of his tennis.
"Miles and I had a chat in Miami and we saw thing differently," said Murray. "It was not what I would call a hard decision. It was not the nicest to have to take, but it wasn‘t tough. It was easy to make up my mind when I saw how far apart we were."
Murray would get specifics, but reports indicate that former French Open finalist Corretja wanted to scale back his 12-week annual participation and Scot Maclagen was not keen to assume the extra coaching burden - hence the mass parting in the run-up to the US Open.
"It really comes down to business and me achieving my goals," said Murray, top seed this week in his debut at Los Angeles. "I want to become number one."
Murray will likely head to the US Open with just his physio and fitness trainer in tow, a lite version of Team Murray.
"People got carried away about how many people I wanted to work with. I did my first three years with just one coach, no trainer, no physio to travel with me."

I'm not sure this is entirely correct. Miles and Alex were both in Miami which apparently caused the bust up but, although Alex has reportedly flown home, he is apparently being retained for his part time contract.
I think Miles has done very well with Andy but he lacks coaching experience at the top and that's where the trouble lies. However, as a HUGE Murray fan, I've gotta say good luck to Miles' successor..... I still think Andy's got a lotta maturing to do!
