  • Gasquet advances in Gstaad, Gil ousts Robredo

    7/26/10 9:44 PM | Ricky Dimon
Gasquet advances in Gstaad, Gil ousts Robredo Richard Gasquet and Frederico Gil reach the Gstaad second round on Monday. Gasquet cruises past Farrukh Dustov and Gil upsets Tommy Robredo.

    (7) Richard Gasquet d. (Q) Farrukh Dustov 6-3, 6-4

Gasquet eased past Dustov in just one hour and 17 minutes in the first round of the Allianz Suisse Open Gstaad on Monday afternoon. The seventh-seeded Frenchman dropped only nine points in 10 service games and won an amazing 19 of 20 second-serve points to book a meeting with Daniel Brands.

Dustov, who is ranked No. 457 in the world, did well to stay relatively competitive. He took care of his first serve (69 percent of those points won) and saved five of seven break chances, but one break for Gasquet was enough to decide each set. Dustov finished with three aces and no double-faults while the world No. 47 recorded a meager two aces and one double.

    Frederico Gil d. (5) Tommy Robredo 4-6, 7-5, 6-1

Robredo's woes continued as the fifth-seeded Spaniard blew a set lead and went down to Gil after two hours and 14 minutes of play. Robredo is now 12-15 for the year and has lost in the first round in six of his last seven tournaments.

Gstaad's No. 5 seemed to be on the right track when he took the first set, but he could not recover after surrendering serve at 5-6 in the second. Gil raced to a 5-0 lead before a meaningless service hold finally put Robredo on the scoreboard. The world No. 83, who lost only four points in his last four service games, promptly closed out the proceedings with ease at 5-1.
