Dent takes out Blake in Atlanta opener Taylor Dent defeats James Blake in three sets on Tuesday at the Atlanta Tennis Championships. Dent is joined in the second round by Atlanta resident Donald Young.

Taylor Dent booked a spot in the second round of the Atlanta Tennis Championships on Tuesday, knocking off James Blake 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in one hour and 51 minutes. Dent saved 12 of 14 break points to set up a meeting with No. 4 seed Horacio Zeballos.

Dismal serving plagued the Dent-Blake showdown, and while that would normally spell doom for Dent, he overcame it with aggressive baseline play. Refusing to let his opponent dictate play, the world No. 94 fought off both of the break points he faced in the opening frame of play and therefore needed just a single break for a one-set advantage.

Missed opportunities were the story of set two as Dent squandered five break chances and Blake failed to convert nine of 10. The world No. 115's lone conversion, however, took the proceedings to a third set.

A back-and-forth final stanza saw Dent break for 5-3 when Blake missed a forehand. Dent, though, could not serve out the match as double-faults (13 in total) continued to infest his game. Nonetheless, it was then Blake's turn to once again donate serve and this time it cost him the match at 4-5.

Joining Dent in the second round were Donald Young and Kevin Anderson, who will do battle on Thursday for a place in the quarterfinals. Young steamrolled Dudi Sela 7-5, 6-0 in just one hour and five minutes. The Atlanta native broke to end the first set and Sela completely disappeared the rest of the way.

Anderson upset No. 5 seed Janko Tipsarevic 6-3, 7-5 in one hour and 17 minutes. The 6'8'' South African double-faulted eight times, but he struck 12 aces and surrendered serve only once. Tipsarevic's lone break came at 4-5 in the third, but the Serb dropped serve right away at 5-5 and Anderson made no mistake with a second chance.
