    Hamburg - Ferrero advances, Nieminen ousts Simon Juan Carlos Ferrero is through to the International German Open round of 16, after taking out Jan Hajek in straight sets. The Spaniard is joined by Jarkko Nieminen, a three-set winner over 9th seed Gilles Simon.

    Sixth seed Juan Carlos Ferrero won his opening-round match in Hamburg with a straight-set success against Jan Hajek late Tuesday. The 30-year-old veteran came back from 2-4 down in the opening set to seal a 7-6(4), 6-1 victory in 75 minutes. Ferrero, who led 4-0 in the second set, ended the evening with 78% of his first-service points captured.

    The world No. 21 will take on Jarkko Nieminen for a place in the quarterfinal. Ferrero leads the head-to-head series at 3-1.

    Jarkko Nieminen made the round of 16, following his two-hour and 6-minute victory over 9th seed Gilles Simon. After splitting the first two sets, the 28-year-old rallied from 2-5, triple break-point down in the decider. Nieminen missed a match point opportunity at 5-4 before sealing the third set, 7-5. The Finn completed the day with five aces and eight of 11 break points saved.
