Nicolas Almagro eased into his first ATP World Tour final of the season, after defeating fellow Spaniard Tommy Robredo in straight sets. The 24-year-old will take on defending champion Robin Soderling on Sunday.
World No. 20 Nicolas Almagro is through to the SkiStar Swedish Open championship following his 6-1, 6-3 success over two-time former champion Tommy Robredo. Almagro held eight of 8 service games on his way to the straight-set victory in 68 minutes. With the semifinal-round win, the Murcia native made his first final since Acapulco in 2009.
From 0-1 in the opening set, Almagro captured nine consecutive games to compile a 6-1, 3-0 advantage. The 24-year-old missed match point at 5-2, but held on close in the ninth game. Almagro, who pocketed 23 of 27 first-service points, completed the afternoon with four of 8 break points converted.
Almagro will battle defending champion Robin Soderling for the Bastad title on Sunday. The Swede rallied from a set down to oust semifinal opponent David Ferrer, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
