Fellow Spaniards Fernando Verdasco and Nicolas Almagro made the final eight at the SkiStar Swedish Open on Thursday, following their straight-set victories over respective opponents Stephane Robert and Jarkko Nieminen.

Second seed Fernando Verdasco needed just 66 minutes to down second-round challenger Stephane Robert Thursday afternoon, 6-1, 6-1. The Spaniard converted five of 11 break points and held all seven of his service games. Verdasco, who improved his clay-court season record to 22-6, is through to the Bastad quarterfinal for the third consecutive year.
The Madrid native will face compatriot Tommy Robredo in the next round. The fifth seeded-Spaniard rallied to defeat Andrey Golubev in round two, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
(4) Nicolas Almagro def. Jarkko Nieminen 6-4, 6-4
Fourth seed Nicolas Almagro moved into the last eight after dismissing Jarkko Nieminen in one hour and 22 minutes of play. The 24-year-old held struck seven aces and held 10 of 10 service games without facing break point. With the second-round victory, the world No. 20 advanced to his sixth ATP World Tour quarter of the season.
Almagro is scheduled to meet qualifier Franco Skugor for a place in the semifinal. The Croat ousted fellow qualifier Ervin Eleskovic of Sweden on Thursday, 6-2, 6-3.
