Defending champion Robin Soderling outlasted compatriot Andreas Vinciguerra Wednesday night to reach the SkiStar Swedish Open quarterfinal. Third seed David Ferrer also advanced, earning a straight-set win over Fabio Fognini.

Top seed Robin Soderling made the Bastad quarterfinal after taking out wildcard countryman Andreas Vinciguerra in one hour and 52 minutes. The 25-year-old missed multiple match points in the second set, but held on to seal the win in three, 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-2. Soderling completed the contest with 15 aces and four of 9 break points converted.
The World No. 5 will face Andreas Seppi in the next round. Seppi downed fellow Italian Potito Starace in the second round, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(7).
(3) David Ferrer def. Fabio Fognini 6-3, 7-5
Third seed David Ferrer extended his series lead to 2-0 over Fabio Fognini on Wednesday. The Spaniard converted five of 7 break points en route to a straight-set victory in 97 minutes. The 28-year-old, who won the Bastad crown in 2007, improved his 2010 season record to 39-13.
Ferrer is scheduled to meet Pablo Cuevas for a place in the semifinal. Cuevas dismissed Pere Riba in round two, 6-4, 6-2.
