Despite playing on the road and missing its two best players, the Czech Republic is ahead of Chile 2-0 after one day of Davis Cup action. Ivo Minar routines Nicolas Massu and Jan Hajek eases past Paul Capdeville.

Minar gave the Czech Republic a 1-0 lead over host Chile in this Davis Cup quarterfinal tie by blasting Massu in one hour and 54 minutes. The world No. 247 took the Chilean crowd out of the match right from the start by blanking Massu 6-0 in the first set and it hardly got better for the hosts.
Massu was simply hopeless the entire way and he did not get a look at a single break point. The 101st-ranked Chilean managed to hold serve twice in the second frame of play and three times in the third, but it was nowhere near enough. Minar, who lost a mere 14 service points in total, finished off the proceedings on serve at 5-3 in the second.
Jan Hajek d. Paul Capdeville 6-0, 6-2, 6-1
Hajek made even quicker work of Capdeville, putting the Czechs ahead 2-0 after just one hour and 34 minutes. Like Massu before him, Capdeville looked utterly lost in the first set amidst the pressure of really needing a win to keep his country competitive.
Capdeville never showed signs of making a recovery, as he won only two games during the second frame of play. The Chilean actually broke Hajek once in the third set, but he donated all four of his service games. Minar lost only five points throughout the entire match in which his opponent had to toss in a second delivery.
