Mikhail Youzhny and Leonardo Mayer will battle in the second rubber in the Argentina-Russia quarterfinal showdown in Davis Cup play this Friday.
The Argentine side has been decimated by injury. Top player Juan Martin Del Potro has been sidelined most of the 2010 season with wrist surgery, and Davis Cup stalwart David Nalbandian is also coming back off injury to try to help his country in the Davis Cup semifinals.
The quest appears to be an uphill battle for the Argentines. Leonardo Mayer, ranked 58 in the world is Argentina’s second singles player – and he will be taking on world No. 14 Mikhail Youzhny. To make matters worse for Argentina, Mayer is a clay courter by nature.
This match should be a slam dunk for Youzhny. The Russian will be playing on his favorite surface in front of what is sure to be an enthusiastic home crowd.
Expect when this match is finished for Russia to have a commanding 2-0 lead in the tie.
