    Newport- Rochus advances, Giraldo upset Fourth seed Olivier Rochus advanced to the quarterfinal at the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Championships on Wednesday, while second seed Santiago Giraldo suffered an upset to World No. 552 Richard Bloomfield.

    (4) Olivier Rochus def. (Q) Sergei Bubka 6-3, 6-3

    World No. 65 Olivier Rochus made the Newport quarterfinal after taking out qualifier Sergei Bubka in 70 minutes of play. The 29-year-old Belgian, who passed through the match unbroken, secured three of 6 break point opportunities. Rochus captured 80% of his first-service points en route to recording his 10th victory of the season.

    The fourth seed is scheduled to face qualifier Raven Klaasen for a place in the semifinal. The South African rallied to oust defending champion Rajeev Ram in the round of 16, 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(3).

    (Q) Richard Bloomfield def. (2) Santiago Giraldo 6-3, 7-6(5)

    Qualifier Richard Bloomfield upset second seed Santiago Girlado in straight sets Wednesday afternoon. The 27-year-old, ranked World No. 552, struck 9 aces and held 10 of 11 service games to pocket the straight-sets win in one hour and 28 minutes. Bloomfield improved his season record to 2-0.

    Bloomfield will take on wildcard Ryan Harrison in the quarterfinal. The American defeated fellow American Denis Kudla in round two, 7-5, 7-6(5).
