Robin Soderling rolls over Thomaz Bellucci in straight sets on Saturday at Wimbledon. Soderling is joined in the fourth round by David Ferrer, who outlasted Jeremy Chardy in five sets.
Robin Soderling continued his flawless trek to the second week of Wimbledon on Saturday, dismissing Thomaz Bellucci 6-4, 6-2, 7-5. Soderling, who has not been broken and has not dropped a single set, advanced to the fourth round in one hour and 54 minutes.
The sixth-ranked Swede lost only six points in his first five service games and he surrendered just one point on serve in the entire second set. A mostly hopeless Bellucci finally saw three break chances late in the third set, but Soderling erased all three and responded immediately with his fourth break of the match.
Wimbledon's No. 6 seed finished with 15 aces and five double-faults while striking 41 winners to Bellucci's 18.
Next up for Soderling is David Ferrer, who survived Jeremy Chardy 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Ferrer needed three hours and four minutes to reach the fourth round for the second time in his career.
Both players had huge opportunities to win this back-and-forth thriller, and it was Ferrer who took control early with ideas of closing out the proceedings in straight sets. The 11th-ranked Spaniard led by two sets and 4-2 before nearly falling apart, as Chardy won four consecutive games to prolong the match.
From there it was almost all Chardy all the way until the end. The 55th-ranked Frenchman used one break in the fourth to force a decisive set and he added one more break on his way to a 5-3 lead in the final frame. Ferrer, however, held serve to stay alive and then came up with a stellar return game to break for 5-5.
Chardy never recovered, donating his serve again at 5-6 and throwing away the match with his 10th double-fault. Ferrer wrapped up his effort with 13 aces, three doubles, and 44 winners against a paltry 19 unforced errors.

Credit to Ferrer for making Chardy go out and win it by returning well and making the frenchman play yet another shot to win a point. Epic choke from Chardy serving for the match and then to stay in the match. Couldn't hit the court after dominating the match since his break in the third set.
