The favorites stay alive in the 2nd quarter of the draw as Lleyton Hewitt and Novak Djokovic advanced to the 4th round on Friday.
Novak Djokovic breezed into the 4th round with an easy 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Spain’s Albert Montanes. Aussie Lleyton Hewitt had a more difficult time with No. 21 seed Gael Monfils of France. Hewitt also moved through in straight sets, but Monfils made him work harder for it. The Aussie won 6-3, 7-6(9), 6-4.
Monfils has yet to regain his form following a 6-week injury layoff this spring. The Frenchman is still ranked 20 in the world, but his Slam record since returning to play has been disappointing. Monfils lost in the second round at the French Open, and now the third round at Wimbledon.
Djokovic and Hewitt will meet in a blockbuster round of 16 match when play resumes for the men on Monday, since there is no play on middle Sunday.
