  • Mahut offered Club Med holiday to recharge

    6/25/10 1:49 PM | Johan Lindahl
Mahut offered Club Med holiday to recharge French tennis hero Nicolas Mahut has been offered a free holiday in Mauritius by Club Med after losing the longest match in history to American John Isner at Wimbledon.

The three-day first-round affair which ended 70-68 in the fifth set will never be duplicated in the record books.

Mahut was offered a restful sojourn at the flagship resort of the French resort firm, with a spokesman adding tactfully: "We will understand if he doesn't visit the tennis courts!”

Mahut, a qualifier ranked 148, said that he and Isner now have a tennis bond for life after setting the record on Wimbledon's court 18. "This is just a match I will never forget. I hope the people who watched the match will think the same," said Mahut, disappointed with the loss after a total of more than 11 hours on court and a fifth set which lasted eight hours, 11 minutes.

"I lost this match, I just wanted to win. He was just better than me. It's really painful to lose this kind of match."

The 215 aces (112 for Isner, 103 for Mahut) unleashed by the pair, set a record of a combined 215 for the match which refused to end.

Gosh, I didnt realise Inser is already out!!!

Anyway, he has made his name and I wish him all the best for US Open!!!!

He knew he was going to lose today. There is no way he would have had time to recharge after that kind of abuse to the body.

My guess is Isner doesn't -- and won't -- care about the DeBakker match. When he recovers, he'll spend the summer making whatever he might have made by advancing further at Wimbledon -- and then some -- through endorsements after hitting the chat circuit.

What the heck, just by outlasting Mahut, he gained on points from last year.

I like Mahut's style of play. He plays well on grass. I hope he continue to do well in his career and moves up the ranking. Poor soul, have a good rest and recharge, comes back only when readly.

looking at his rankings, can you believe there was a time when mahut used to defeat roger??

It would be nice if he and Clement could win their doubles match later. (Mahut watching his patner play Federer atm).
