Benjamin Becker and Janko Tipsarevic will battle for a place in the 's-Hertogenbosch title match on Friday. The other semifinal will be contested by Xavier Malisse and Sergiy Stakhovsky.
Sergiy Stakhovsky captured his third career ATP title on Saturday, erasing Janko Tipsarevic 6-3, 6-0 in the final of the UNICEF Open. Stakhovsky, who did not drop a set the entire week, needed just 55 minutes to triumph.
The unseeded Ukrainian maintained his fine form right from the start against Tipsarevic, breaking in the fourth game of the match for a 3-1 lead. Tipsarevic saved three more break points later in the set, but he never could get back on serve. Stakhovsky lost a mere four points in his first five service games before serving out the set with ease at 5-3.
From there it was all over for Tipsarevic, who won only nine points in the entire second frame of play. The 51st-ranked Serb actually served at 84 percent in set two, but Stakhovsky simply outplayed him in every facet of the game. Stakhovsky finished with eight aces and no double-faults while winning 23 of 25 first-serve points.
"I played really well today," said the world No. 71, who is a perfect 3-0 lifetime in ATP title matches. "By the score, I believe this would be the easiest match of the week, but it definitely wasn’t as there was a lot of tension."
"I'm very disappointed," added Tipsarevic, who is still looking for his first ATP title (0-2 in finals). "But Sergiy played very well during the whole week. I somehow lost my spirit."
