Janko Tipsarevic eases past Peter Luczak in straight sets on Thursday in 's-Hertogenbosch. Tipsarevic is joined in the semifinals by Xavier Malisse, who beat Alejandro Falla in a three-setter.
Janko Tipsarevic booked a spot in his first ATP semifinal since the season-opening week in Chennai with a 6-3, 6-3 rout of Peter Luczak in the UNICEF Open quarterfinals on Thursday. Tipsarevic needed just one hour and two minutes to set up a meeting with Benjamin Becker, the only other seeded player remaining in the draw.
Tipsarevic put on a dominant serving display, losing a mere nine points in nine service games while never facing a break point. A dominant first set saw the seventh-seeded Serb crush eight aces and earn two breaks, the second of which came at 5-3.
One break was all Tipsarevic needed in the second, as he continued to to cruise on his own serve. Luczak finished with 13 aces and only two double-faults, but he rarely showed signs of life in the return game and therefore his few service hiccups proved to be critical.
Xavier Malisse joined Tipsarevic and Becker in the last four by battling past Alejandro Falla 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in one hour and 48 minutes. Malisse won 15 of 16 first-serve points in the final set and dropped just five points in his last five service games. Falla kept it close, but the Colombian saved only two of six break points.
The last semifinal spot went to Sergiy Stakhovsky, who dismissed Santiago Giraldo 6-3, 6-4. Becker, a 6-3, 6-1 winner over fellow German Simon Greul, will battle Stakhovsky for a place in Saturday's title match.
