Gilles Simon made the AEGON International quarterfinal on Wednesday, following his three-set victory over Andrey Kuznetsov. Top seed Nicolas Almagro was taken off court in a stretcher, halted by a right hip injury.

Third seed Gilles Simon is through to his first quarterfinal berth of the season, having outlasted qualifier Andrey Kuznetsov, 6-1, 6-7(3), 7-6(2). The former World No. 6, now 2-4 for the year, saved six of 7 break points en route to a round of 16 success in one hour and 57 minutes. Simon converted three of 8 breakers and won 80% of his first-service points.
The 25-year-old will take on fellow Frenchman Michael Llodra in the next round. The 8th-seeded veteran held on to dismiss compatriot Stephane Robert in the round of 16, 6-1, 6-7(2), 6-4.
Denis Istomin def. (1) Nicolas Almagro 6-4, 1-0 (retired)
Denis Istomin earned passage into the final eight after top-seeded opponent Nicolas Almagro was forced out of action with injury. The match had reached the 52-minute mark when the Spaniard was stretchered off the court, hampered by a right hip issue.
Istomin meets Illya Marchenko for a place in the semifinal. Marchenko upended 6th seed Horacio Zeballos in the second round, 7-6(2), 6-3.
