Rainer Schuettler and Sam Querrey moved into the semifinals on a day rife with upsets at the AEGON Championships
Germany's Rainer Schuettler has added another surprise grass court semifinal to his resume. The German made the semifinals of Wimbledon in 2008 seemingly out of nowhere - and he has now done the same thing at Queen's Club.
The draw in London has fallen apart. The top 4 seeds were all ousted. Roddick, Djokovic and Murray each lost in the third round, and Nadal lost in the quarters to countryman Feliciano Lopez. The highest player left in the draw is No. 7 seed Sam Querrey, who Schuettler will play in the semifinals.
Schuettler played an outstanding match against Israel's Dudi Sela on Friday. The German fought off an inspired performance by Sela (along with 7 break points) to win the quarterfinal in straight sets.
Querrey was equally impressive against Xavier Malisse, the man who took out No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic. The big-serving American had a whopping 15 chances to break Malisse's serve in the two-set match. He converted on just 3 of those opportunities, but the American served well enough that the breaks were enough to take the victory.
Querrey and Schuettler will battle in the semifinals on Saturday.
