With the top seeds knocked out of the bottom half, No. 7 seed Sam Querrey has an excellent chance to advance at Queen’s Club.
Sam Querrey vs. Xavier Malisse
Belgium’s Xavier Malisse took advantage of the relative poor grass court form of Novak Djokovic to advance to the quarterfinals at the AEGON Championships. The Belgian is ranked 74 in the world and is prone to inconsistent play – but what he showed against the Serb was good grass court tennis.
Unfortunately for Malisse, Querrey isn’t vulnerable on grass like Djokovic is. The American is a big server and the quick courts at Queen’s Club play into Querrey’s strengths. It is unlikely that Malisse will be able to pull off a second upset.
Rainer Schuettler vs. Dudi Sela
This was supposed to be a match between Andy Roddick and Richard Gasquet – but Gasquet got hurt and Roddick was upset by Sela in straight sets. Instead, the bottom half features a quarterfinal between Rainer Schuettler and Dudi Sela. Germany’s Schuettler wasn’t tested in the third round, because Gasquet gave him a walkover. He will go into the quarterfinal fresh, but without any momentum. Sela, conversely, played a fantastic match against Andy Roddick. If the Israeli rides the momentum of that big win into the quarters, he should find himself in the semifinals.
