Djokovic tips Federer, Nadal as Wimbledon favorites Novak Djokovic will go into Wimbledon with only two warm-up matches on grass after his third-round exit at Queen's.

And the world No. 3 Serb is quick to admit that title favourites at the All England club are limited to Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

"I'll definitely give my 110 percent to try and get to the final," said Djokovic, whose best showing at the major was the 2007 semi-finals. Of course, Nadal and Federer are the main favourites."

The Serb called Wimbledon, "the tournament which I have always dreamed of winning. Hopefully someday I'll eventually be in the position to fight for that trophy.

"To be able to play for some many years at Wimbledon is a thrill for me," said Djokovic, who made his first main draw appearance at Wimbledon as a teenager five years ago. winning a second-round match in five sets after saving six match points against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain.

He is playing at The 2010 Boodles Challenge (15th to 19th June) along with Davydenko, Nalbandian, Simon, Gulbis, Kohlshcreiber, Monfils, Verdasco, Tsonga, Monaco and Hanescu.. So he'll have few more mathces to practice for Wimby.
stu, yes, heart + service = winning combination. :)

"Hopefully someday I'll eventually be in the position to fight for that trophy"

Sounds like he's not confident to win it anytime soon. i really hope he doesn't retire from the game with only one slam. that would be so unfair.

homos , 6/11/10 6:58 PM

I don't think Nole will retire with only one slam. I foresee Rafa ending his tennis career earlier than Nole (unless Nole suddenly lose interest in tennis and call it quit) and Fed 'aging gracefully', I think Nole will have a chance of winning more slams. Of course he'll have to fight it out with the likes of Murray, Delpo, and maybe Berdych, Cilic and some other younger players that come along. Still his chances are there, even if he can't break into the Fed/Rafa stronghold at the moment.

I foresee ROGER ending his tennis career earlier than RAFA, NOLE, MURRAY, even HANESCU!.......

luckystar,,,, you always have to DRAG Rafa on everything you say!......... JUST mention FEDERER in ALL your posts!............. ENOUGH!

McQ , 6/12/10 3:23 AM

homos: i agree. shame he has this attitude now - i honestly think he could do well, but somehow he isnt in form now because of his serve

olly: so gilles simon is gonna be there? YAY! *excited*

mriiidula , 6/12/10 4:03 AM

McQ, don't get angry. Both Rafa n Fed are very important characters in the tennis world n we are talking about slams here. I certainly don't want Rafa to end his career too soon, neither do I want anyone to beat him at the slams.

luckystar , 6/12/10 5:08 AM

McQ, Rafa lost today to Lopez...hahahahahaha! Just thought I should let you know.

eelesino , 6/12/10 5:38 AM

mriiidula, Simon IS playing according to this:

So, enjoy!!! ;) He wasn't around much this year, that's true... :/

OllyK , 6/12/10 8:08 AM

"Hopefully someday I'll eventually be in the position to fight for that trophy."

He's gonna be in position to fight for THAT trophy in two weeks time. As soon as he sets foot on that grass there, he is fightning for THAT trophy. Just like anybody else.

danica , 6/13/10 2:53 AM

Can't wait to see Simon! Thanks olly :)

Am pleased Novak is doing well in the doubles. After his early exit in singles it is good he has this extra match practice and if they pull off a win today it will do a lot to boost his confidence going into Wimby.

ed251137 , 6/13/10 8:01 AM

so am i. is it the finals tonight? thats awesome.

mriiidula , 6/13/10 3:54 PM

Djoko won doubles title with Erlich...Maybe he should pull out of Wibmy in singles and play just in doubles.

Ice , 6/13/10 8:50 PM

i'm sure doubles competition will be much tougher at wimby. no matter what he decides to play there, prospects are bleak.

rfzr , 6/13/10 9:12 PM

At least Novak lifted a trophy!!! They defeated SEEDED pairs , so it's quite an achievement!. Congrats to Djokovic!!!........ I hope he becomes MORE competitive @ Wimby!

McQ , 6/14/10 3:40 AM

Good win for Nole and co. Hope he does well at Wimbledon and get better result than last year.

luckystar , 6/14/10 10:09 AM

For all the issues he's having with his serve, Nole's doing pretty well with his return game this season - http://www.atpworldtour.com/Rankings/MatchFacts.aspx#returnofservice

I tell ya, there won't be any stopping him once he fixes the serve :)

stu , 6/14/10 4:16 PM

I hope that happens soon stu!
