  • Roddick, Gasquet and Djokovic in third round action

    6/10/10 4:45 AM | Cheryl Murray
Roddick, Gasquet and Djokovic in third round action In a busy day at Queen’s Club, Andy Roddick, Richard Gasquet and Novak Djokovic will take to the court.

    Andy Roddick vs. Dudi Sela

This might just be the mis-match of the tournament so far. Roddick is a force to be reckoned with on grass courts. The American and his massive first serve have been to 3 Wimbledon finals and he has amassed 4 Queen’s Club titles in his career. Sela is ranked 63 in the world; he spends half of his season playing on the Challenger circuit. Expect Roddick to neutralize Sela with his big first serve. This match will be over in straight sets.

    Novak Djokvoic vs. Xavier Malisse

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic has a tricky third round match-up. Belgium’s Xavier Malisse is ranked 74 in the world, but his game translates well to grass. Djokovic’s form has not been up to his usual standards this season – and grass is not his best surface. If Malisse has a good serving day, Djokovic could well find himself with a bit too much time on his hands prior to Wimbledon.

    Richard Gasquet vs. Rainer Schuettler

This should be a good opportunity for France’s Richard Gasquet to advance into the quarterfinals. The Frenchman has slowly been climbing back up the rankings this year. He just won his first title of the year in Nice. Schuettler has not had the best season so far, but grass is a good surface for him. Still, Gasquet has been playing well enough to move through to the quarters.

tj600 , 6/10/10 2:38 PM

sela entertains the crowd, but is unable to get the break..
still one set advantage of sela..
tj, are you watching the match??
has sela used his S&V game yet??
i just watched him serving out the set and he did not use S&V..

clayking , 6/10/10 2:49 PM

tj600 , 6/10/10 2:54 PM

clayking , 6/10/10 2:58 PM

it appears that gadsela is a tough nutshell to crack up.

Raindrops , 6/10/10 3:11 PM

sela is CRUISINg on serve...tough times for roddick almost 4-4

vamosrafa , 6/10/10 3:13 PM

Sela is playing really well, amazing winners

SGHIceman , 6/10/10 3:24 PM

hang on A-Rod and serve well at the TIGHT breaker :-)

Raindrops , 6/10/10 3:34 PM

Roddick is beaten in straight sets. I did not believe for one minute that he would lose. Gasquet has pulled out with back injury.

nadline , 6/10/10 3:46 PM

Shocker! This half of the draw is wide open!

stu , 6/10/10 3:47 PM

tch tch pity, big upset....nadal abt to start his match now.

vamosrafa , 6/10/10 4:06 PM

Feel so sorry for Roddick. But Sela played an amazing match and seemed quite fearless. Classic nothing to lose tennis.

ed251137 , 6/10/10 4:26 PM

Gasquet has pulled out but not sure why.

ed251137 , 6/10/10 4:28 PM

OK. Just seen the answer in the news flash.

ed251137 , 6/10/10 4:35 PM

A good prediction by TennisTalk to the Rodick-Sela match. A win by straight sets, indeed.

dorongigi , 6/10/10 4:41 PM

Where is sabs?

Hey pal, I thought A-Rod is a "power pack" on grass, turned out to be a powDer pack eh?

Too bad for A-Rod, his grass game practise cut shorter than expected.

Raindrops , 6/10/10 4:48 PM

OOps cheryl, 2 out of 3 so far is Djko going to make it a hat-trick? If Sela was 6'3" he would be king of the grass courts.

deuce , 6/10/10 4:52 PM

ermm, i hope djokovic at least wins tonight!

mriiidula , 6/10/10 6:12 PM

Didn't Sela make the 2nd week of Wimby last year? Let's not underestimate his grass court prowess.

Combine that with Roddick's overall rustiness, and we have this surprise outcome. I still think Roddick is a favorite to go deep at the All England Club. I'm rooting for him to win the whole thing. Although this result doesn't exactly inspire confidence. He has to regain his form from earlier in the year when he took out Nadal and Berdych on the way to a 1000 title. Translate that game to grass and he really will be unstoppable.

I wonder if Roddick will play another grass tournament before wimbledon, hasn't played a lot of tennis so shouldn't be that likely to get fatigued?

SGHIceman , 6/10/10 7:31 PM

An early retirement from tennis might save Djokovic a few more years of heartbreak.

stu , 6/10/10 7:40 PM

djokovic having a real battle out there.

@Iceman, no roddick wont play another event.

vamosrafa , 6/10/10 8:11 PM

is there a stream for nole's match?

rfzr , 6/10/10 8:16 PM

and also murray is having tough time now

bolbol , 6/10/10 8:43 PM

Djokovic has been beaten by Malisse.

nadline , 6/10/10 8:46 PM

6-2 final set ...what is wrong wid djokovic? never so good on grass but this one was way too disapointing..malisse and talented and dangerous but still man djo is no.3 !!

vamosrafa , 6/10/10 8:59 PM

Well...that was successful predicting. LOL. Still.. Sela beating Roddick?

This ought to be a GREAT WImbledon. Sigh.

cherylmurray , 6/10/10 9:22 PM

Actually, as I look back on what I wrote, I did call for the Malisse upset - - and the Roddick match WAS over in straight sets........

OK, fine. I messed the Roddick one up badly. :D

cherylmurray , 6/10/10 9:28 PM

Hi cheryl, this is off-topic but I know I can count on you to sit up and get something done about the legend in the ATP Calendar column to the right-hand side of this page.

It shows the following: "14 June, Ordina Open 's-Hertogenbosch, New Zealand".

's-Hertogenbosch is in the Netherlands.

I know, I know - too much time on my hands, and all that...
