Richard Gasquet will face a race for Wimbledon fitness after withdrawing from the Queen's club event with back problems.
The fragile Frenchman was returning to Paris for a scan after complaining of intense pain.
The decision thrusts Queen's debutant and Wimbledon semi-finalist Rainer Schuettler into the quarter-finals at the elite Wimbledon warm-up.
Gasquet, who returned to the ATP this year after clearing his name in court over a 2009 doping ban, had mixed success on clay. He had hoped to turn his luck on the grass for which is game is well-suited.
He missed Wimbledon a year ago due to legal proceedings but made the 2007 semi-finals at the All England club. On clay this spring, the No. 45 won the Nice title the week before the start of the French Open but went out in the first round at Roland Garros to Andy Murray.
Gasquet was playing Queen's for the fifth time since 2002 with a pair of quarter-finals to show as his best efforts in west London.
