World No. 12 Marin Cilic improved to 2-1 lifetime over second-round opponent Nicolas Mahut after rallying from a set deficit Wednesday evening. The 21-year-old successfully avenged his 2009 Queen’s Club defeat, where he lost to the Frenchman in two tie-break sets. Cilic reached the round of 16 with a 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2 win in one hour and 54 minutes.

After splitting the first two sets, Cilic led 4-0 in the deciding set. The Croat cleaned up his first-service percentage to take 11 of 11 points. The 21-year-old ended the day with seven aces and four of eight break points converted.

Cilic meets 12th seed Michael Llodra for a place in the quarterfinal. The veteran Frenchman took out Jesse Levine in straight sets on Wednesday, 6-4, 6-2.

    (8) Feliciano Lopez def. (WC) Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-4

Eighth seed Feliciano Lopez saved three of 3 break points during his second-round clash with wildcard Grigor Dimitrov early Wednesday. The Spaniard held the Bulgarian teenager to just eight points on the return, as he made the round of 16 in two hours and 18 minutes of play. Despite hitting 8 aces, the 19-year-old struggled with shot selection and his second serve, able to win only 41% of the points.

Lopez will take on 9th seed Julian Benneteau in the round of 16. The Frenchman beat Kevin Anderson in round two, 7-5, 6-3.
