Lleyton Hewitt and Philipp Petzschner earn second-round victories on Wednesday in Halle. They defeat Thiemo De Bakker and Viktor Troicki, respectively.
Thiemo De Bakker enjoyed a stellar clay-court season, but he was out of his league on grass against a former Wimbledon champion. Lleyton Hewitt needed just one hour and five minutes to dismiss De Bakker 6-3, 6-3 in the second round of the Gerry Weber Open on Wednesday.
Hewitt dropped only six service points in the first set, so one break was all he needed before closing out the opening frame of play at 5-3. The 32nd-ranked Aussie was even more dominant in set two, losing a mere two points in four service games. Hewitt's third break of the day finished off the proceedings in style.
De Bakker struck nine aces, but he won just 39 percent of his second-serve points. Next up for Hewitt in the quarterfinals is Andreas Beck, who outlasted fellow German Nicolas Kiefer in a third-set tiebreaker.
Philipp Petzschner also booked a spot in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, taking out Viktor Troicki 7-6(5), 6-3. Petzschner got past Troicki in one hour and 40 minutes and he will now face Lukas Lacko for a spot in the semis.
After winning a first set that saw neither man break serve, Petzschner took control early in the second. The 41st-ranked German raced to a 4-1 lead, but Troicki's only break of the afternoon put him back on serve at 3-4. Nonetheless, Petzschner regained the momentum right away with his second break and survived a tough service game at 5-3 to clinch the victory.

Ricky: we all know you are taking a rest after Wimbledon - you told us so on the French Open Final Expert Picks thread (tee, hee) - but before you put your feet up do you think you could persuade whoever is responsbile to keep the Draw & Results page more up to date. When I looked at 11.15pm this evening it had still not been updated since the Monday results. It is often 24-36 hours out of date.
