The lone American left in the French Open draw made a cramped trip to Paris.
Conditions were nothing like business class when Robby Ginepri crammed into a van with his fellow American players for a 415-kilometre motorway drive from the World Team Championship in Germany to the French Open.
The relatively compact Ginepri (1.82 metres), who reached the Roland Garros fourth round for the second time in his career, admitted that leg room during the journey from Dusseldorf was in short supply.
That was due to the towering presences of two of the tallest players in the sport, John Isner and Sam Querrey.
"We were all in Düsseldorf for the World Team Cup, and rode with Querrey (1.98 metres) and Isner (2.05)," said Ginepri. "Four and a half hours with the boys, pretty easy. Some good laughs. We're here."
But the travelling situation was decidedly short on space. "We had two (guys) sitting here and two sitting here, we were all facing each other," Ginepri explained. "We kind of rotated positions every 30 minutes or so."
