    Soderling and Cilic advance, Monfils falls to Fognini in five Tournament seeds Robin Soderling and Marin Cilic are through to the third round of the French Open. Fabio Fognini ousted 13th seed Gael Monfils in a dramatic five-setter late Thursday.

    (5) Robin Soderling def. Taylor Dent 6-0, 6-1, 6-1

    French Open finalist Robin Soderling crushed Taylor Dent on Wednesday, easing to a straight-sets victory with the loss of just two games. The Swede, who converted eight of 12 break points on the day, held the American to a mere 5 points in the 17-minute opening set. Soderling struck 24 winners en route to sealing the 6-0, 6-1, 6-1 success in 71 minutes.

    Soderling will take on 29th seed Albert Montanes for a place in the round of 16. The Spaniard downed German qualifier Tobias Kamke in round two, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1.

    (10) Marin Cilic def. Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-2

    Tenth seed Marin Cilic continued his winning ways in Paris, knocking out Daniel Gimeno-Traver in straight sets. The 21-year-old passed through the second round unbroken, having saved six of 6 break points. Cilic took advantage of an error-prone Spaniard, who committed 41 total unforced during the two-hour and 17-minute match.

    Cilic faces Leonardo Mayer in the next round. The Argentine rallied from a set down to defeat second-round opponent Julien Benneteau in four sets, 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.

    Fabio Fognini def. (13) Gael Monfils 2-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, 9-7

    World No. 92 Fabio Fognini battled back from two sets down to upend 13th seed Gael Monfils. The players had reached 5-5 in the deciding set when darkness halted play Wednesday night. Monfils squandered multiple leads throughout the encounter, including a 4-1 edge in the fourth set. The Frenchman saved a trio of match points at 4-5 in set five, but failed to keep any momentum. Fognini pocketed two key service breaks in the decider, sealing the win in four hours and 16 minutes. The players combined for 107 winners and 103 unforced errors through five sets.

    Fognini meets 20th seed Stanislas Wawrinka in the third round. The Swiss dismissed Andreas Beck of Germany in round two, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.
