  • Ferrer, Ferrero cruise, Ginepri upsets Querrey

Ferrer, Ferrero cruise, Ginepri upsets Querrey Spaniards David Ferrero and Juan Carlos Ferrero have little trouble reaching the Roland Garros second round on Tuesday. They are joined there by Robby Ginepri, who upset fellow American Sam Querrey.

David Ferrer maintained his ruthless clay-court form on Tuesday, blasting David Guez 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 in the first round of the French Open. Ferrer, who has reached at least the semifinals in all six of his clay-court tournaments this year, needed just one hour and 33 minutes to set up an encounter with either Xavier Malisse or Simon Greul.

This one was never in doubt, as Ferrer broke serve eight times and lost a mere five total games. Guez, a Frenchman who got a wild card into the main draw, had no answer for an opponent who made only nine unforced errors in three sets. Ferrer struck 19 winners and fired six aces as he improved his 2010 record to an amazing 34-10.

Juan Carlos Ferrero also cruised into the second round, erasing Pablo Cuevas 6-4, 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and 52 minutes. Cuevas provided some resistance in the first set, but the Uruguayan disappeared after Ferrero closed out the opening frame of play on serve at 5-4.

Ferrero broke serve twice in the second set, including at 5-3, and from there it was all over. The 18th-ranked Spaniard won all three of his return games in the final set, so it mattered little that he donated serve once. Ferrero, the 2003 champion, made just 14 unforced errors en route to a second-round matchup with countryman Pere Riba.

In an all-American first-round clash, Robby Ginepri surprised American World Team Cup teammate Sam Querrey 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-4, 6-2. Querrey served well in the first set and was never broken, but his game collapsed after dropping the second set in a tiebreaker. Ranked 76 spots behind his compatriot at No. 98 in the world, Ginepri struck 40 winners and 23 winners on the way to a meeting with Potito Starace.

Perhaps you can leave the mistakes up long enough for the Drinking game to kick in, Ricky. :)
Yep, looks like a good day for Spain.
