Novak Djokovic and Andy Roddick are the top two players in the third quarter of the French Open draw, but the favorite to reach the semis could be David Ferrer. Former champion Juan Carlos Ferrero will also look to contend.
The third quarter of the French Open draw might not be the most difficult, but it won't be easy right from the start for Novak Djokovic and Andy Roddick. Djokovic will open against Evgeny Korolev while Roddick is set for a first-round clash with Jarkko Nieminen.
If the top two players in that section are lucky enough to advance, danger still lurks at every corner. Roddick could face Argentine clay-courter Eduardo Schwank in the second round and Djokovic would get the winner of an intriguing first-round showdown between Kei Nishikori and Santiago Ventura.
Another clay-courter from Argentina, Juan Monaco, could run into Roddick in round three. Djokovic, meanwhile, might have to get past Juan Carlos Ferrero in the fourth round if the third-ranked Serb wants to reach the quarterfinals.
The overall favorite in this entire quarter, however, has to be David Ferrer. The 11th-ranked Spaniard is an awesome 33-10 for his 2010 campaign and he has reached at least the semifinals in all six of his clay-court appearances (runner-up in Buenos Aires, title in Acapulco, semifinals in Monte-Carlo, semis in Barcelona, runner-up in Rome, semis in Madrid). Ferrer, a two-time Roland Garros quarterfinalist, should have no trouble reaching the fourth round for a possible meeting with either Roddick or Monaco.
If the seeds hold to form in this section, Roddick would face Ferrer for a spot in the quarterfinals and Djokovic would go up against Ferrero. However, with Roddick having not played a clay-court match in 2010 and Djokovic and Ferrero dealing with physical issues, some surprises should be expected.

Just waiting ti see Nole's face when he go out on clay... then it will be much more clear what are the chances of David.
Everything depends on fact "which" Nole is in Paris... I hope that he is well rested and healthy... and then everything is possible. We'll see...

I disapprove those skeptics who have written Nole off...he is well rested and he will be hard to beat...the conditions in RG are suitable for him as the surface is fast and favors flat hitters and big serves...if Nole serves well he will easily win his early rounds matches...however, if he gets to play Ferrer (with all due respect I don?t think Ferrero will reach that far to face Nole, although I would honestly love him to!) it will be a time consuming match with long rallies which Nole does not need...the way to beat Ferrer is to shorten the points and conserve energy...we shall see what happens...

nole used to be a flat hitter, now he is moonballing his fh. his serve deteriorated as his mental ability to pull it off once in a hairy situation. i certainly wish him good luck for rg, he needs it.

Poor Ricky ... too many Ferrero's and not enough Ferrer's, (we should make into some kind of drinking game). :)
