Argentina and the United States will go head-to-head for the World Team Cup on Saturday. Juan Monaco and Horacio Zeballos will represent the Argentines, while the Americans are going with Sam Querrey and Robby Ginepri.
The World Team Cup is coming down to Argentina and the United States, as the two nations will battle for the championship on Saturday afternoon in Dusseldorf, Germany.
If the two singles matches cannot decide the winner, a decisive doubles showdown will make the difference.
Juan Monaco vs. Sam Querrey
Monaco and Querrey will kick off the proceedings with what will be their third career meeting. After Monaco prevailed in their only clay-court encounter three years ago (3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in Estoril), Querrey got revenge later that season with a straight-set win on the hard courts of Cincinnati.
Querrey is undefeated so far this week, having defeated Peter Luczak, Daniel Gimeno-Traver, and Jan Hajek. The 21st-ranked American also won a clinching doubles match against Australia. Monaco is 1-1 with a win over Viktor Troicki in a third-set tiebreaker followed by a straight-set loss to Jeremy Chardy.
Horacio Zeballos vs. Robby Ginepri
Zeballos and Ginepri will be going head-to-head for the first time in their careers on Saturday afternoon. Ginepri has played sparingly in 2010 due to physical problems and a low ranking (No. 98 in the world), but he was competitive in his lone World Team Cup match against Nicolas Almagro before going down in a third-set tiebreaker. The American is once again replacing John Isner, who lost to Tomas Berdych in a third-set tiebreaker on Friday.
Getting the nod for Argentina instead of Eduardo Schwank, Zeballos is 1-1 so far in singles action. He opened with a routine victory over Filip Krajinovic before falling to Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets.
If the two singles matches are split, the decisive doubles clash will most likely feature Monaco and Zeballos against Bob and Mike Bryan.
