Bob and Mike Bryan put the United States into the World Team Cup final while Juan Monaco and Horacio Zeballos give Argentina a 2-1 victory over France.
The United States and Argentina earned hard-fought victories on Friday evening in Dusseldorf, Germany to reach the final of the 2010 World Team Cup.
Bob and Mike Bryan won the decisive doubles match for the Americans in the Red Group, defeating Tomas Berdych and Lukas Dlouhy 7-5, 7-5 in one hour and 11 minutes. The Bryans broke serve at 6-5 in each set to pull out the victory.
It was the Czechs, however, who got off to a fast start. Berdych and Dlouhy led 5-3 in the opening frame of play before losing four straight games in swift fashion. Easy breaks at both 4-5 and 6-5 allowed the brothers to take control.
In set two, it was the Czechs' turn to battle back from a break down. They broke serve at 2-4 to get back in the match, but the Bryans came up with some impressive returns on Dlouhy's serve at 5-6 and capitalized on their first match point with a crushing overhead.
In the Blue Group, Juan Monaco and Horacio Zeballos of Argentina defeated Frenchmen Jeremy Chardy and Nicolas Mahut 7-5, 3-6, 10-8. Monaco and Zeballos survived a back-and-forth affair in one hour and 34 minutes to book the Argentines' final spot.
Monaco and Zeballos recovered from an immediate break in the first set and struck for a second time at 5-5. They served out the set at 6-5, but had to do so by winning a decisive deuce point. Chardy and Mahut regained their momentum in set two by losing only five points in five service games, but they did not have quite enough in the ensuing tiebreaker.
