France’s Richard Gasquet and Spain’s Fernando Verdasco will be in quarterfinal action in Nice on Thursday.
Richard Gasquet vs. Olivier Rochus
World No. 68 Richard Gasquet comes into this match with a 4-2 head-to-head over Belgium’s Olivier Rochus. Gasquet is only now just finding his game again after a bad start to the 2010 season. The Frenchman was once a top ten player, but he most recently was able to break back into the top 70 with a win at the Challenger event in Bordeaux.
Rochus has not built up as much momentum as Gasquet. His second round win over Robin Soderling marked only his second tour-level victory on clay for the entire season. The crowd will surely be behind Gasquet, and his form suggests that his game might be on the rebound. The Frenchman in 3.
Fernando Verdasco vs. Sergiy Stakhovsky
World No. 9 Fernando Verdasco will take on No. 66 Sergiy Stakhovsky in the Nice quarterfinals. Verdasco has played a lot of tennis this spring. The Spaniard captured the title in Barcelona, where he defeated Robin Soderling. He made the final in Monte Carlo, the semifinals in Rome and just the third round in Madrid. Verdasco might be somewhat tired going into this match, but Stakhovsky has had terrible results on clay this year. The Spaniard for the win in straight sets.
