Bryan Brothers finish off Spain, Berdych wins for Czechs Bob and Mike Bryan give the United States a 2-1 win over Spain at the World Team Cup on Wednesday. Joining the Americans with a 2-0 record is the Czech Republic.

The United States won the decisive doubles point against Spain on Wednesday at the World Team Cup in Dusseldorf, Germany. Bob and Mike Bryan defeated Daniel Gimeno-Traver and Marc Lopez 6-3, 7-5 to give the Americans a 2-1 victory and improve their record to 2-0 in round-robin action.

After a relatively routine first set, the Bryans had to fight off one break point en route to a 5-5 tie in the second. They struck for a critical break in the 11th game of the set and served out the proceedings at 6-5, capitalizing on their second match point.

Next up for the Americans is an all-important date with the Czech Republic. Both teams are 2-0 in the Red Group , so the winner of that match will advance to Saturday's championship.

The Czechs led Australia 1-0 after play on Tuesday as Jan Hajek routed Peter Luczak. Tomas Berdych finished the job on Wednesday with a 6-3, 7-6(4) victory over Carsten Ball in one hour and 36 minutes. Berdych, who had been scheduled to play Lleyton Hewitt until the Aussie pulled out due to illness, fired five aces and saved eight of nine break points.

In Blue Group action, Argentina battle back from a 1-0 deficit to beat Germany 2-1 and mathematically eliminate the host nation. Eduardo Schwank beat Andreas Beck in singles before Juan Monaco and Horacio Zeballos got the best of Christpher Kas and Philipp Kohlschreiber in the doubles showdown. The Argentines move to 2-0 while the Germans drop to 0-2.

France also won a decisive doubles point, as Jeremy Chardy and Nicolas Mahut beat Nenad Zimonjic and Viktor Troicki in straight sets. The French are now 2-0 while the 0-2 Serbs, the defending champions, are mathematically eliminated.
