John Isner dug his way out of a set deficit on Monday, downing Houston semifinalist Horacio Zeballos in three sets. The 14th-seeded American is through to round two of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia.

Fourteenth seed John Isner crushed 20 aces during his opening-round match against tricky clay-court opponent Horacio Zeballos. After dropping the first set, the American rallied to win the match, 4-6, 7-6(5), 7-5 in two hours and 36 minutes. Isner missed nine break point chances before securing a key break at 5-5 in the deciding set. With the victory, the Greensboro native improved to 16-8 for the season.
Isner will face either Thomaz Bellucci or Leonardo Mayer in the next round.
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez def. (Q)Juan Ignacio Chela 6-2, 6-2
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez earned his second career success against veteran Juan Ignacio Chela, after recording a straight-set win in the first round. The Spaniard held eight of 8 service games without facing break point, sealing the 6-2, 6-2 victory in just 63 minutes. The 26-year-old captured 27 of 36 first-service points and converted 100% of his break point chances.
Garcia-Lopez awaits the winner of the Youzhny/Hewitt opener to be contested on Tuesday.
