James Blake will hope to stem his slide down the tennis rankings by missing the European clay season and devoting time to rehabbing a knee injury which has contributed to his fall to a current No. 52 standing.
As a result, all eyes will be on the 30-year-old when he steps back onto court on grass in a first-time appearance at Eastbourne in June, just in time for the run to Wimbledon.
Blake has plenty to prove at the All England club, having never gone past the third round - in contrast to the three Wimbledon finals lost by compatriot Andy Roddick against Roger Federer.
Blake remains at home on grass, playing finals at Queen's club, west London in 2006 against Lleyton Hewitt and last summer versus Andy Murray.
At Eastbourne on Britain's south coast, one-time No. 4 Blake will be joined by eager young compatriots Sam Querrey and John Isner.
“It provides a great opportunity to play on grass ahead of Wimbledon and it will be perfect preparation for me," said Blake, who has withdrawn from Davis Cup this season for the US in a symbolic changing of the guard.

Blake is done, he doesn't have it mentally to stand the stress of competition.
