  • Murray driving for success on clay

    4/17/10 9:11 PM | Johan Lindahl
Murray driving for success on clay Team Murray piled into a rented van for the 500-kilometre drive to Barcelona from Monte Carlo , where the Scot hopes to repair his game and his confidence with a week of clay practise.

The player who will drop back to fifth on the world after exiting in a Monte Carlo opening match, has opted to train instead of take a wildcard into the Barcelona Open.

Murray is walking a fine line after losing three straight matches, his confidence apparently still fragile after losing the Australian Open final to Roger Federer more than two months ago.

After going down in Monte Carlo to German Philip Kohlschreiber, Murray characterised his performance as "rubbish" and will now be working with his coaches including two-time French Open finalist Alex Corretja to fix his game in time for a start within a week at the Rome Masters.

Murray has had a slow comeback after his Australian disappointment, standing 4-4. He says his goal remains the Grand Slam title he's never claimed after playing - and losing - two finals to Federer at the top level.

"I spoke about making sure my priority was to peak for the Grand Slams, but that I can still play great tennis at the Masters and try to win every match that I play in," he told British media. "The sooner I start winning again and going deep into tournaments, the better for me. But I can't get there if I play like that."

I've read that he'll be practicing, but not playing.

Honestly you guys, Andy hasn't looked like that for years! Where did you drag that photo up from? Come to think of it he WAS playing a lot better in those days b4 Nike started air brushing him. Andy ditch Nike, return to Fred Perry and retrieve your beautiful game! There all Andy's problems solved!

deuce : Nike didnt approach Murray addidas did as luckystar mentioned he become thier first at Tennis instead of Novak whom turned to a different sponsor.with Nadal and Federer thier hands are full of what they need right now.
i dont believe am saying this but since Djoko and Murray start playing so poorly the tennis become so boring what is the matter with them?suddenley they seem un insired non caring as if they were dragged to play suddenly you see Verdaso, Bydrch at finals the standers were much higher last year after they have raisen in the ranking they forgate how to play tennis!

Andy is definitely not playing Barcelona, the draw is out.

Ok guys, Adidas but I still blame the air brushing...
nadline: don't think he was ever gonna play Barcelona but is just down there practising with Corretja.
Hey tennislover: you'll be an Andy Murray fan soon at this rate! Be prepared for a very bumpy ride, you'll need strong nerves!

deuce, I always knew that Murray wasn't playing Barca, I thought there was some doubt, judging by mara's post above.

deuce: the type of tennis Murray plays is hardly the type i like more of Roger's and Novak's type BUT i miss the high standers that we had last years the big names in the semi finals Roger vs. Murray and Djoko vs. Nadal or vise versa
it didnt happen even in the last slams, i wish things will be better as the season go on further
