Tommy Robredo defeats Horacio Zeballos in straight sets on Tuesday afternoon in Monte-Carlo. Robredo is joined in the second by Viktor Troicki, who fought past Lukasz Kubot in three sets.
Tommy Robredo is through to the second round of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters after beating Horacio Zeballos 6-3, 6-3 on Tuesday. Robredo needed one hour and nine minutes to set up a meeting with Viktor Troicki.
Little separated the two clay-courters in the early going, but Robredo earned two breaks of serve to Zeballos' one before serving out the opening frame of play at 5-3.
Set two was more straightforward, as Robredo dropped a mere five points over his last four service games. The 23rd-ranked Spaniard faced no break points in the second set and added an additional pair of breaks. His fourth scalp of the Zeballos serve finished off the proceeds in style. The 47th-ranked Argentine, who reached the Houston semifinals last week, won only 39 percent of his second-serve points and struck no aces.
Troicki advanced in more difficult fashion, battling past Lukasz Kubot 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. The Serb led by a break in the first set, but donated three of his own service games due to woeful 47 percent serving. Kubot's third break of the day gave him a one-set advantage, but the Pole could not sustain any momentum.
From there it was all Troicki, who lost only four more games the rest of the way. Troicki faced just one break point--which he saved--over the final two sets and converted four of five break-point opportunities. While Kubot double-faulted six times, Troicki fired six aces and never double-faulted. The world No. 37 served out the match at 5-2 in third, clinching victory after one hour and 50 minutes of play.
