  • Slumping Murray looks to regroup in Monte-Carlo

Slumping Murray looks to regroup in Monte-Carlo Andy Murray aims to snap a run of poor form as he begins his fourth tournament in Monte-Carlo. The 22-year-old, who reached a career high World No. 2 in August 2009, is seeded third at the tournament.

Andy Murray will attempt to regain his winning form this week, as he heads to the clay in Monaco for the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters. The World No. 4 must defend semifinal points, having reached the final four last year (lost to Nadal).

After making the final of the Australian Open, the Scot has struggled to find his A-game. Following a round of 16 defeat in Dubai (lost to Tipsarevic) and a quarterfinal-round loss to Robin Soderling in Indian Wells, Murray suffered a shock upset to Mardy Fish at the Sony Ericsson Open. The 22-year-old had entered the Miami event as the defending champion before succumbing to the 101st-ranked American in straight sets, 4-6, 4-6.

With the absence of World No. 1 Roger Federer, Murray enters the Monte-Carlo tournament as the third seed. He tops a potentially tricky quarter of the Monte-Carlo draw that includes 2010 Indian Wells champion Ivan Ljubicic, 11th seed David Ferrer and 15th seed Jurgen Melzer.

Other players in the Scot’s quarter are Jeremy Chardy, Fabio Fognini, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, Michael Llodra, Paul-Henri Mathieu, Philipp Petzschner and qualifiers Andrey Golubev and Peter Luczak.

After an opening-round bye, Murray is scheduled to face either clay-court talent Thomaz Bellucci or Philipp Kohlschreiber, who knocked World No. 2 Novak Djokovic out of last year’s French Open, in round two.

I think Murray has a very bad draw. For him at least. I wouldn't be surprised if he loses to Kohlschreiber.

you've gotta be kidding ADT. Muzz has the best draw - at the very least, its better that Rafa's and Novak's by far!

It's not necessarily the draw. It's how someone is playing at the time. Murray has been in terrible form, totally out of it mentally in his most recent matches. He needs to try to get past that loss to Fed in this year's AO and move on. Otherwise, no matter who he meets, it will be trouble.

Rafa and Andy are on a collision course in MC - hope they play against each other!

tj, I think both Bellucci and Kohli could give Muzza a hard time. I wouldn't want to see either one as my second round oppponent.

i had Bellucci beating Murray

but I think Murray will get past Kohli
