David Ferrer is through to the second round of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, following his 6-2, 6-4 dismissal of qualifier Peter Luczak. Philipp Kohlschreiber also advanced, having taken out Thomaz Bellucci in three sets.

Four-time Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters quarterfinalist David Ferrer had little trouble with opening-round opponent Peter Luczak Monday afternoon. The 11th-seeded Spaniard surrendered serve only once, en route to a 6-2, 6-4 victory in an hour and 37 minutes. Ferrer converted four of 7 break point opportunities, on his way to an 18th ATP World Tour success.
The 28-year-old is scheduled to meet qualifier Andrey Golubev in the second round. Golubev knocked out Jeremy Chardy of France, 6-2, 7-6(2).

Philipp Kohlschreiber made the Monte-Carlo second round, rallying to down Thomaz Bellucci in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(3). Both players encountered service troubles, as the match contained 12 breaks of serve, nine consecutive coming after 4-2 in the second set. The German held the edge in the tie-break, closing the decider by seven points to three. Kohlschreiber returned well, taking 28 of 44 second-service points from the Brazilian.
Kohlschreiber faces World No. 4 Andy Murray for a spot in the round of 16.
