Dudi Sela and 2009 finalist Wayne Odesnik moved through to the second round of the US Men’s Clay Court Championship on Monday. Each player won his respective first-round match in straight sets.
Dudi Sela def. Jesse Levine 6-4, 7-6(6)
Dudi Sela extended his series advantage to 2-0 over Jesse Levine late Monday, dismissing the American in one hour and 46 minutes. Sela missed the chance to complete the first set as he served 5-3, gifting a double fault to Levine. He immediately broke back to end the set in 39 minutes. A second set contained a host of lead changes, with Sela trailing by a break at 4-5 and 5-6. Twice the 25-year-old recovered the break, pushing the set into a tie-break. After saving set point at 5-6, Sela captured three consecutive points to finish the breaker, 8-6.
Sela will take on the Zeballos-Dent winner for a place in the round of 16.
Wayne Odesnik def. (WC) Jerzy Janowicz 6-3, 6-4
Houston finalist Wayne Odesnik made a successful start Monday afternoon, knocking out 19-year-old wildcard Jerzy Janowicz in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. The 24-year-old held nine of 10 service games en route to a one-hour and 45-minute victory. Odesnik led 3-1 in the opening set, the continued to reach 5-1 in the second. The American faltered serving for the match at 5-2, but closed on his second attempt.
Odesnik moves on to face either Mikhail Kukushkin or eighth-seeded compatriot Michael Russell in the second round.
