Two-time Sony Ericsson Open champion Roger Federer posted a straight-set victory over veteran Nicolas Lapentti Saturday evening. The World No. 1 is through to the third round for the 10th consecutive year.
Despite some initial problems with the forehand wing, Roger Federer came through his opener with relative ease on Saturday. The World No. 1 defeated Nicolas Lapentti, 6-3, 6-3 without the loss of serve, successfully extending his series lead to 4-0. The two-time Sony Ericsson title-winner, through to round three for the 10th straight year, improved his 2010 season mark to 12-2.
Federer struggled to connect with the forehand early on, but fought to earn his first break point at 4-3 in the opening set. A backhand pass gave the 28-year-old a 5-3 advantage near the half-hour mark. The World No. 1 quickly held double set-point, then closed after Lapentti missed a return.
Both players competed well in the second, neither able to reach break point until 3-3. Federer struck first, taking a 4-3 lead as Lapentti gave away a backhand error. The Swiss completed the match with no trouble, collecting two match points at 5-3. A well-struck, cross-court backhand sealed the win for the World No. 1 in 67 minutes.
Federer, who converted 100% of his break point chances, ended the evening with 26 winners and 24 errors.
He meets Florent Serra of France for a place in the round of 16. Serra held on to take out 26th seed Albert Montanes early Saturday, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

well done roger! Some clinical shot making yesterday, ok too many shanked forehands, but backhand was awesome, on fire, smokin' hot! got to ease up on the UE's, 10 aces and no double faults wth all 3/3 breakpoint conversion!
Go fed! He did what he needed to in second round, now step it up!
Go fed!
