  • Roddick says growth hormone Odesnik deserves big sanction

    3/27/10 9:27 PM | Johan Lindahl
    Roddick says growth hormone Odesnik deserves big sanction Andy Roddick says fellow American Wayne Odesnik deserves what he gets after pleading guilty to importing banned human growth hormone (HGH) into Australia.

    The journeyman paid a court fine and now faces a possible two-year ban from the sport.

    That's fine by the irate Roddick.

    "I hope they come up with a test (for HGH) and I hope they start just slamming guys. I hope when they do come up with a test for it they don't tell anybody and they just implement it and start picking people off."

    "I take a lot of pride in what we have to do on a daily basis and how responsible we have to be for one jackass to ruin it for the rest of us."

    Roddick,seeded sixth at the Miami Masters, said there just cannot be an explanation for being in contact with the substance. "If he pled guilty, which it looks like he did, there's nothing worse than that."

    "If that's the case, what we read today, that's just plain cheating and they should throw him out of tennis.

    "There's just no room for it. I was shocked, I was surprised. We don't need stories like that. If that's the case, I have zero sympathy.

    "You know you're not supposed to have it, you're not supposed to be anywhere near it. You're not supposed to know about it, you're not supposed to smuggle it into a country.

    "You either have it to sell it or you have it to take it. So either way, it's not the play. It's no good."

If he was taking it, it certainly didn't work. I'd ask for my money back.

First of double standards by Roddick who was fully forgiving of Agassi for taking meth. OK meth is not performance enhancing, but it's a banned substance.

Does HGH account for the giants that are taking over tennis? What does HGH actually do?

It doesn't make you taller. It makes you recover faster after a workout and makes your muscles look more 'cut' due the increased fat burning. It mainly was first used by older guys to try to help them stay young and virile. If you take too much you get 'man boobs'.

It's not Roddick having double standards - it's Roddick having enough sense to discern the difference between doing a rec drug like crystal meth and a performance enhancing drug like hgh. There's a huge difference there in terms of trying to cheat at your sport (hgh or any other ped) or just being an idiot (crystal meth of any other rec drug).

What's the measure of "not working"? No ped is going to make a journeyman the best player in the world, but it might well help someone ranked say 150 get to 100 - and by that measure it would have worked.

oh look at mr perfect roddick.

american sportspeople are the absolute worst offenders of drugs in sport.
majority of american olympic champions are drugs cheats that have advanced masking agents that can hide it until new tests are found, just look at marion jones.

guys like michael phelps are definitely on drugs, no question about it, they just dont want their highest profile athlete getting done for drugs.

odesnik should be banned for life, i heard guierllmo canas is the coach of odesnik, lol no wonder odesnik got caught.

i know many people have suspisions of nadull taking drugs because people cant figure out how he cn runs so much but never gets tired and he says he never does fitness work or do weight training.
i know the BBC asked him once about a french paper accusing him of drugs and he got angry.

roddick is a clown anyway, the abuse he does on court to others is far worse than drug taking.

ATR, that is nadal's talent .He is God gifted in this category, his physical and mental strengths are almost unmatched and those who get jealous utter such senteces that refer to drugs. Is it resoanble to say federer takes drugs becoz he never stops winning at slam level??? It is a PATHETIC statement and I even feel ashamed after writing it , so if you cannot admire talent you are a LOSER

Watch it, texas. Folks around these here parts don't like well-reasoned posts.

SenorPlaid , 3/29/10 4:23 PM

that was cheap shot, atr, and you know it:
Nadal has been tested plenty of times and there is no evidence, none, that he ever used performance enhancing drugs or others. Do you now about his other uncle, the former football great? He too is built like a tank. Geneitics and a many years of hard work.

@atr: pardon my typos

@Senor: totally!
