Andy Murray def. Andreas Seppi 6-4, 6-4

Great Britain’s Andy Murray, ranked 4 in the world, defeated Andreas Seppi in a grinder of a second round match. Unforced errors were abundant off both mens’ rackets, Murray just made the most of his opportunities when the arose. Seppi, who is ranked No. 46, snagged a pair of service breaks from Murray in the opening set, but he surrendered 3 and the Scot took the lead. The second set offered no additional opportunities for Seppi to break, but there were still few winners off the Murray racket.

Murray will take on the winner of Michael Russell and Igor Andreev in the third round, where he will hope to regain the form he had at the Australian Open.

    Jo-Wilfried Tsonga def. Marinko Matosevic 6-1, 6-3

France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga breezed into the third round with an easy straight set victory over qualifier Marinko Matosevic of Australia. The match lasted just over an hour and the No. 9 seeded Tsonga surrendered just 4 games in the entire match.

Matosevic didn’t help his cause by serving poorly on the day. The Aussie put in just 42% of his first serves and a struck a pair of aces for the match. Tsonga’s serve statistics were not much better than Matosevic’s, but the Frenchman is much better off the ground and he did not need to have a brilliant serving day to snag the win.

Tsonga will play the winner of Ricardo Mello and Albert Montanes. He will be the decided favorite against either player.
