The King continues his good form in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Ferrero was focused and poised as he blocked out all the distractions that have been affecting many of the day’s competitors.
World #14 Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain dominated play in his opening round match at the 2010 BNP Paribas Open. The match lasted a mere 50 minutes as Daniel Koellerer came up limping in the second game of the match. Refusing to give his opponent an opportunity, Ferrero was relentless in his attacking ground game.
Coming into the match, Ferrero has been on quite the tear with a 15-3 record and two titles this year. Most of Ferrero’s success this year has been in Latin American clay court events, so even he was curious to see if he could translate that success to the desert. Ferrero has never had much success in Indian Wells, but he feels much stronger mentally than in years past. When he sensed blood in the second game of the match he made sure he stayed focused and prevented his opponent from gaining any momentum.
Koellerer did get the upper hand winning his opening service game and first point of the second game. Unfortunately for him, he would come up limping on the next point. He attempted to continue play before calling the trainer at 40-15. After the medical timeout, Ferrero never looked back as he steamrolled into the next round winning 6-3, 6-0.
Up next for Ferrero is Juan Monaco of Argentina. The two have met twice this year in the semifinals of clay court events, with Ferrero winning both without dropping a set.
