David Ferrer and Marco Chiudinelli will close out the first day of action in the Spain-Switzerland first round Davis Cup tie.
The last time David Ferrer and Marco Chiudinelli met, the year was 2007 and it was yet another Switzerland-Spain Davis Cup meeting. Chiudinelli won that encounter, which took place on carpet.
The edge goes to Ferrer this time around, however. The Spaniard will be playing at home and on slow clay.
Ferrer also comes into the tie off an impressive run on South American clay. He pocketed the Acapulco title last week against countryman Juan Carlos Ferrero and the week before that, he made the final in Buenos Aires.
With the Spaniard already in a comfortable clay-court groove, and with the 4 days’ rest he has had since Acapulco, Ferrer should have little difficulty with this match.
Chiudinelli had a good end to the 2009 season, but his 2010 results have been disappointing. The Swiss has not gotten past the second round of a tournament all year.
Ferrer in straight sets.
