A February wrist injury is likely to keep Nikolay Davydenko for the weekend Davis Cup World Group first-round clash with India.
In addition to local Moscow media reports, Indian player Mahesh Bhupathi confirmed on his Twitter feed that the world no. 6 Davydenko will be missing from the opposition side. "Just heard Davydenko has pulled out of the tie," Bhupathi tweeted. "That should get the boys fired up."
Davydenko suffered the problem during a fall at mid-month in his Rotterdam semi-final against Robin Soderling. He quit his second-round match last week in Dubai with wrist pain.
If Davydenko is unable to play, as expected, Dubai finalist Mikhail Youzhny will lead the hosts, who will also field Igor Kunitsyn and Teimuraz Gabashvili. World No. 38 Igor Andreev was named to the squad as
well.
India will be playing in the elite World Group for the first time in a dozen years. Russia has not lost at home since 1995.
