Roger Federer looks to make the pre-Indian Wells charity event for Haiti after suffering an illness that forced him out of Dubai.
Roger Federer cannot be sure, but if his recovery from a lung infection proceeds on schedule, the world No. 1 could be fit in time to honor his commitment to test it with three other legends of the game in Indian Wells in just over a fortnight for the Hit for Haiti 2 charity event.
"It's still on at the moment," said the Swiss who was forced to miss this week's "home" event in Dubai, the Barclays Championships, for the second consecutive edition after coming up the winner three times.
"But again, we'll see how my health is in ten days, two weeks," said the Swiss, who made a brief appearance this week at the Dubai players party, saying his hellos to dignitaries and sponsors before heading back to his flat.
"If I can then make the trip to Indian Wells, I'll definitely go early enough to climatize and get ready over there," he said of the Californian desert venue where play at the joint ATP-WTA tournament starts March 10. "If I get the medical go-ahead, I'm super excited."
Federer was the mastermind behind the it for Haiti which proceeded the Australian Open raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the earthquake relief effort.
"He is due to highlight a field featuring Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras. "I know Pete, I know Andre, Rafa's a great champion himself, so it should be a good night.
"I'm happy to raise money for good causes. And we already had one for the tsunami relief efforts. We were able to generate a little bit of money as well with an event there which I was able to put together in a short amount of time at Indian Wells.
"So I'm sure it's going to be nice. I hope to be there."

I think they should also have a hit for Chile, maybe in Miami, because charity begins at home, and Gonzo is making an appeal for help.

cant w8 for the Rafa/Agassi Vs Fed/Sampras
Cant w8 for the jokes they'll crack up.. Hope Rafa doesnt do the angry look he sported in the AO H4H. He should lighten up a lil bit.
