SAP Open - Roddick, Verdasco advance to semifinal The top two seeds moved through to the SAP Open semifinal on Friday, as Andy Roddick and Fernando Verdasco each recorded a match win against their respective opponent in straight sets.

    (1) Andy Roddick def. (5) Tomas Berdych 7-6(5), 7-6(5)

Andy Roddick extended his head-to-head series lead to 5-2 over Tomas Berdych Friday evening. The three-time San Jose champion defeated the fifth-seeded Czech for the second time in 2010, having prevailed 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the Brisbane semifinal. In a match completed without a break of serve, Roddick snagged the 7-6, 7-6 win in an hour and 42 minutes.

A costly forehand miss from Berdych gave Roddick set-point at 6-5 in the opener. The 24-year-old donated another forehand at 5-5 in the second, handing the World No. 7 an opportunity to close the match. Roddick booked his eighth consecutive semifinal berth with his 16th ace of the night.

The top seed advances to face countryman and seventh seed Sam Querrey for a place in the final. Querrey dispatched fellow American Michael Russell, 6-4, 6-3 late Friday.

    (2) Fernando Verdasco def. (Q) Ricardas Berankis 6-3, 7-6

Fernando Verdasco is through to the final four at the SAP Open, following his straight-set dismissal of qualifier Ricardas Berankis on Friday. The second seed held 111 of 11 service games to earn a 6-3, 7-6 victory in one hour and 27 minutes. Verdasco captured the match’s sole break of serve at 2-1 in the opening set, capitalizing on a wild forehand from Berankis. A closely contested tiebreak reached match point at 6-5 for the Spaniard, who sealed the victory after the qualifier struck a forehand well over the baseline.

Verdasco finished the match winning 83% of his first-serve points.

He continues on to battle Denis Istomin in the semifinal. Istomin held on to upset sixth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber early Friday, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
