    2/12/10 5:48 AM | Kelli DeMario
Roddick, Querrey ease into SAP Open quarters Andy Roddick and Sam Querrey advanced to the SAP Open final eight on Thursday. Both players recorded comfortable round of 16 victories in straight sets.

    (1) Andy Roddick def. Leonardo Mayer 6-3, 6-2

Three-time SAP Open champion and top seed Andy Roddick had little trouble defeating Leonardo Mayer Thursday evening. The world No. 7 surrendered just six points on serve to down the Argentine 6-3, 6-2 in 74 minutes.

Roddick earned a service break at 4-3 in the opening set, as Mayer struck an errant forehand. An unreturnable serve sealed the 6-3 set for the American in 36 minutes. After missing three break point chances early in set two, a double-fault from Mayer gave Roddick a 2-1 advantage. An insurance break came for the 27-year-old at 3-1, following a forehand miss from the Argentine. Roddick capped off the victory with his seventh ace of the match.

Roddick moves ahead to take on fifth seed Tomas Berdych for a place in the semifinal. The Czech dismissed second-round opponent Jarkko Nieminen on Wednesday, 6-3, 6-2.

    (7) Sam Querrey def. Taylor Dent 6-4, 6-4

Seventh seed Sam Querrey reached the last eight after besting compatriot Taylor Dent in straight sets. The 22-year-old fired 10 aces and saved four of four break points to post a 67-minute win, 6-4, 6-4.

Querrey took a break lead at 4-4 in the first set, following a netted backhand volley from Dent. The seventh seed, who captured 19 of 26 points on first serve, closed the set at the 32-minute mark. Querrey broke through in the seventh game of set two, capitalizing on another volley mistake from Dent. Dent had a chance to recover the break at 4-5, but failed to convert. A heavy forehand forced the elder American into an error on match point.

Querrey meets countryman Michael Russell in the quarterfinals. The veteran American knocked out Xavier Malisse early Thursday, 6-4, 7-5.
